There are more Africa photos to come, but we interrupt this series with a newsflash from himself.
'Not wishing to be mis-represented, I will tell my own story: This is an elderly BMW F650 single cylinder tourer I purchased on ebay a month ago. A magnificent machine with enough comfort and grunt to convey the Compleat Darby and Joan on longer journeys than our little Yamaha scooter, (making sure all our affairs are in order, of course - for the descendants benefit). Also this was an attempt to create an area of white space in my too busy so-called retirement that is under my control.
'Well, at least I thought it was under my control. One fine day 3 weeks ago I set out on an introductory long ride to the Elan valley. Beautiful journey. Riding no problem. After 45 or so miles I pulled up in a car park on rough ground and lost my footing when parking it on very uneven ground. And fell under it; or - it fell on me - which makes me the victim. Then followed a 50 mile journey to hospital on the bike with what turned out to be 5 fractured or broken metatarsals on my bad foot. I think it must be a record to go 60 years without ever breaking a bone, and then manage to have 17 fractures in the one foot in two attempts!
'Some of the moments in between then and now have been a bit grisly, but I am now recovering well, although a little, er...... incompleat. Just in case you are wondering, the Grandma one has bought (well, had bought for her and not objected) a proper biking jacket! So come the summer.....'
